Intelliscan and Destiny™ combine forces to bring pen and paper into the digital era.

March 2005, Aberdeen, Scotland

Intelliscan Ltd join Destiny™ to help close the gap between traditional pen and paper and the digital domain - with the revolutionary digital pen and paper (DP&P) solution developed by Anoto™. Destiny™ who are the UK Country Agents for Anoto™, have appointed Intelliscan Ltd as their first UK Service Provider to assist them in successfully integrating this ingenious technology into corporate markets in the UK.

In terms of traditional usage, the DP&P solution is like any normal pen but the digital pen houses a sophisticated array of technology that includes an infrared camera, an image processor and, of course, a ball point ink cartridge - but at a price that compares very favourably with alternative technologies such as PDAs or tablet computers. When used with the digital paper, which is printed with the innovative Anoto™ paper pattern, handwriting and numeric information is cleverly recorded by the digital pen using the unique pattern to calculate and store information digitally. The data is then reconstructed when uploaded onto a computer or corporate network - providing an instant digital version of the document as well as the original handwritten copy.

The concept of the paperless office has yet to turn into a reality. Even in the current digital age, business still relies heavily on pen and paper because for many uses, paper is still the most cost effective and convenient tool for the job. However, the DP&P solution closes the gap with the electronic age by enabling people to pass handwritten data and forms directly to computers or corporate databases or networks without the need for manual data re-entry. Data can be collected and sent quickly and safely via a docking station, GPRS or Bluetooth using end-to-end cryptography to ensure the data is secure from the second it leaves the pen. The DP&P solution delivers new efficiencies to businesses including: 100% data accuracy, real-time data delivery to multiple outlets, increased data availability, cleaner and faster communication channels, which all have a profound affect on both monetary and time costs. The result is a highly efficient workforce.

Throughout 2004 the businesses that adopted the technology enjoyed tangible savings - leading Edward Belgeonne (CEO Destiny™) to predict "that the market take-up of the digital pen and paper solution will increase rapidly in 2005". To support and help drive this growth, Destiny™ "is starting to expand their channel activity by appointing key Service Providers. Intelliscan, with their expertise in software development and data integration services, complements the technology perfectly to present us with an ideal choice."

Intelliscan Managing Director, Jonathan Shapiro welcomes the appointment;
"We are delighted to be the first UK Service Provider. This opportunity will broaden Intelliscan's portfolio of products therefore not only benefiting our own customer base but a wider business arena too. DP&P is a simple, yet low cost, easy to use data collection and data input mechanism that will provide potential for enhancing Intelliscan's core work as it will undoubtedly drive demand for data integration services."
