The main source of geographic data in the UK is supplied by the
Ordnance Survey (OS) who, in an effort to improve the positional
accuracy of their data, have embarked on a re-survey program of
all rural 1:2,500 scale data. The Positional Accuracy Improvement
(PAI) program began in April 2001 and is scheduled to be completed
by 2006.
However, the PAI program is having an impact on the many organisations
that use OS data as a backdrop to capture their own asset data (such
as cables and pipes) as the asset data will often no longer match
the new re-surveyed OS data. For instance, a cable that was once
plotted through a footpath may now look as though it runs through
a garden or even a building!
Intelliscan's Warp product provides a tool to realign customers'
asset data to fit the more accurate OS data.
