The Problem
The Utility Company embarked on a network wide data improvement programme and GIS upgrade. This involved extracting data from their GIS sending it to Data Capture Vendors to vectorise the data and re-loaded into a GIS.
The Solution - Data consultancy and Software development
Intelliscan carried out data consultancy work in order to provide options for the data improvement programme via investigative work, running trials and thereafter proposing recommendations.
As a result of this consultancy work it was discovered that there were a number of ways to make the data improvement process more efficient and cost effective. Much of the work could be automated and quality controlled via designing and developing software.
For instance, Intelliscan developed a suitable batch control system to improve, automate and speed up the data extraction process.
A simplified rules based translator was also developed for verifying and loading data received from Data Capture Vendors back into the GIS.
The Result
Intelliscan investigated, piloted and proposed solutions to streamline their data improvement program and thereafter developed software tools that would indeed automate and streamline the task; not only saving money but also resources.
