Utility Sector.

The Problem

One of Intelliscan's clients had migrated their data from one GIS to another. Their legacy system was primarily raster based (with more recent recording done using a limited vector model); the new system is entirely vector based. The client identified a need to occasionally refer back to the original raster diagrams but, with investigation, it was going to prove costly and labour intensive to license and maintain both the old and new systems.

The client had already decided that rather than licensing and maintaining both the old, and new, systems they would move the old legacy data into an Oracle database. Although this provided a more cost effective way of storing the data and an easier means to refer back to the old data, it didn't provide a way to view the datasets together.

The Solution - INView

Intelliscan's INView product was ideally suited to rectifying this problem as it provided a means to to pull together disparate sources of raster and vector data formats for easy viewing.

With this example, INView was customised to retrieve the specific legacy data from the Oracle database, and from the new vector based system, and display the data together as required.

The Result

The client was able to view both the old and new data without having the cost of maintaining the old system.
