Typical Problem
The migration of all raster and vector data from the client's Smallworld GIS to an ICL GIS.
Solution - SwERVE
SwERVE was used to extract the raster and vector data from the Smallworld GIS according to data type and geographical area. The extracted raster data was written to TIFF files, whilst the extracted vector data was written to NTF files for subsequent bulk loading into the ICL GIS. Pre-defined mappings of object type and attributes from the Smallworld GIS to the ICL GIS were built into the migration code.
A Microsoft Access database was developed to automatically monitor the progress of data migration, logging such details as number of objects migrated per file and information on any data anomalies encountered.
The Result
Our client was able to migrate automatically data from one system to the other with the minimum of down time and disruption to users.
